Congenital cataract

Cataract is the crystalline lens inside our eyes turn from clearness to milky white. Usually cataract is an ageing problem of elderly. However, infant may sometime born with an unclear crystalline lens, that is congenital cataract.
Approximately one-third of congenital cataract is result from undetermined causes, other occur as an isolated inherited trait or is a component of a more extensive syndrome or disease (e.g., cataract resulting from congenital rubella syndrome). Metabolic diseases tend to be more commonly associated with bilateral cataracts.

Congential cataract should be diagnosed and treated as young as possible, otherwise it will affect the vision development and cause amblyopia.
